Our very own Pioneer in Disability Awareness: Cammie McGovern

We are still glowing from our Disability Awareness Pioneer brunch last month! October 18 was an incredible fall morning celebrated with delicious food, moving speeches, and a rousing performance by the Joyful Chorus.

Our first-ever honoree, Cammie McGovern, is an award-winning author of young adult fiction and one of the founding parents of Whole Children. More than 150 supporters came out to celebrate Cammie and her role in Whole Children’s journey from a small group of wishful parents to an organization that has built a supportive community for hundreds of families! Not only has Cammie been a part of Whole Children since its founding, she has also written a number of young adult novels that feature fully actualized characters with disabilities, and their peers.

We are so happy to have her incredible speech on video!  Take a minute to experience one of the highlights of the event and learn about the impact that Whole Children has had on Cammie’s work and the larger community of people with disabilities.
