THE FOLLOWING CLASS IS SCHEDULED AT THE INCLUSIVE COMMUNITY CENTER FOR TEENAGERS, BUT ADULTS ARE WELCOME.

A truly pioneering and ambitious project for students and staff, the Transitions Program is a year-long course for ages 14-22. Topics for the self advocacy class include: How to speak up for yourself, identifying strengths and weaknesses, making decisions, knowing rights and responsibilities, problem solving in real life situations, learning how to direct your life (self-determination), IEP meetings, how to reach out to friends and family, and finding out what interests you. Our goal for the end of the year is to help participants have a deeper understanding of what supports them on their life’s journey.

For community skills, we will divide the class into smaller groups, present choices for community outings and they choose where they would like to go and what they would like to do.

This program is a collaboration of Milestones and Family Empowerment. $100 (the fee is reduced due to the generous support of Charter Oak) per session, or $275 for the whole year; No one will be turned away for inability to pay. Please see Gail (413) 585-8010 for payment plans. Saturdays, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.

Two favorite winter sports in one class! Each class starts with muscle warm-ups and stretching, before we start playing and learning about the two sports. In Volleyball, we emphasize building team camaraderie and sportsmanship while learning the rules and regulations of the game. Students learn basic skills such as setting, bumping and serving. We have our sights set on being able to play through a full game by the end of the session! The Basketball portion of the class gives players the opportunity to hone in on skills such as dribbling, passing, and playing defense. Students also learn terminology of the game like double dribble, travel, and foul. Saturday, 12:30-1:30 p.m.  Ages 13 +.  $130.00 after December 30th.
